Caprice & Matt

Rain delay after rain delay, the weather just wasn’t cooperating with us when wanting to do a maternity session at the beach. The biggest fear I had was getting an email or text from Caprice telling me ‘too late, he’s here!’  Thankfully Baby Matthew stayed nice and warm and baked in mommy’s tummy and we were able to have a wonderful winter session. I must say, photographing both Caprice and Matt was one of the easiest sessions I had. They were both fun, playful and down to earth people. I love being able to capture the natural-ness (is that a word?) of people, and by far these two radiated it. Not only did Caprice have her glow (even at 9 months!), so did Matt, and that was just FABULOUS!

Today was nothing short from perfect. The weather may look gloomy, but NONE of that stopped us from having fun — even the life guard couldn’t stop us! ;) Caprice and Matt, thanks for the fun time at the beach, here are your teasers and I can’t wait to meet Baby Matthew!

Little Aiden

This little guy was full of smiles! I had to tell his mom that if we didn’t have to end the session I would just take photos til there wasn’t anymore sunlight! He was strong with great head control for being 4 months old that there were so many things I wanted to try with him. But nonetheless, I had to give him back to his mommy.

…sessions like that give me baby fever!

Sisterly Love

This morning was the most perfect time to spend with these two girls. We went to Balboa Park and just had at it. With it being so early in the morning, there was hardly anyone around and we can have all the fun we wanted.  We ran, we laughed we jumped all around. Did I mention this was my Sunday morning work out? :)

There is no stronger bond than one of two sisters. I am so grateful to have a forever friend that that understands me for who I am and laughs with me every step of the way. These two girls will be the same. The fun and love they have now will be something that they will carry on til they are old like me – and some. LOL.

Amanda, thank you for bringing your family out to play with me. I had a lot of fun getting to know your girls and capturing their individual personalities. I know you just wanted the girls in the photos, but I think the last teaser was a great family moment.

Meet Mickey, the elf

Mickey is a scout elf sent by Santa to watch over Keoni and Kayla to see if they’ve been naughty or nice. With a face like that, it worries me to think of what mischief he’s up to. I’m sure he’s up to no good, but heck, I’ll go with the flow! As long as he plays nice, so will I. ;)

The Houllis Family

The dates were set, and I was excited but also completely nervous. A friend and photographer, Shawn, and I agreed we’d do each others photos for the ‘annual family photo’. I was excited to finally be able to be IN photos with my family, yet nervous that I’m actually IN FRONT of a camera. Something I try to tell my clients is to not be nervous and just be ‘you’…so why is it now so hard to listen to myself? Now to also be taking photos of a photographer I truly have adored for years just makes it a double OMG! How can I ensure that my work will be awesome enough to compare to the level of caliber she can produce with her eyes closed and hands behind her back? I took a deep breath …. whew….and let the session take its course, as I always do. Let the family be who they are and just be the friend that’s there to capture the moment.

From being in her position (the photographer of the family), I know how rare we are in an actual photo. How when you look back at all the photos, you realize that the special moments you’ve caught have been ones without you. I made it a goal of mine to get as much Shawn and family I can get. I wanted it to be about how her love shines through to her kids and her hubby. She has such an amazing soul, the love just radiates through. It makes my heart melt to see the beauty and tenderness she shares with the most important people in her life.

Shawn, I hope I’ve reached the expectations you deserve. Thank you for believing in me.

Baby Jake – 8 Months Older

Remember this Little Dude?  He’s NOW 8 months old! OMG, I know right? I can’t believe how fast time has flown and how CUTE he’s grown! When I received the email from his mommy saying they wanted to book a session, I immediately had to ask for current photos just to see how big Jake has grown. Yes, I was in shock, and YES I was excited to see them again! It was a COLD and WINDY day at the beach today, but nonetheless, Jake was all smiles! He is such a ham, I could’ve eaten him all up!

Thanks Lauren for giving me the opportunity to photograph Jake again! Here are your teasers!

Baby Natalia

Sweet. Serene. Pure.

Three simple words for this little three week old little girl.

The Long Anticipated Came Early

This little boy has been a glimmer in his parents eye for a long time. With his anticipated arrival, little did they know he wanted to come out sooner. He too was very much excited to meet his mommy and daddy. He is perfect in every way possible. Such a sleepy baby, he let us play all morning long!

Congratulations Tina and Eric!

The Mayonnaise Jar

I’ve been up to my eyeballs with the holiday season (decorating, shopping, sessions, and all the FUN stuff during this season, yes even eating!), I can barely keep up. I just had to STOP and are this one with you. It’s a nice reminder of not to lose sight of whats most important in your life and to handle it all accordingly. So yesterday, I stopped ALL and decided the family should just be a family. I left my cell phone and we all went to SeaWorld. It was great, and I would do it all over again.

The Mayonnaise Jar

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, When 24 hours in a day is not enough;remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jarand start to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and pour edit into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded With an unanimous ‘yes.’

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the tableand poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

‘Now,’ said the professor, as the laughter subsided,’I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things – God, family, children, health, friends, and favorite passions Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else — The small stuff.

‘If you put the sand into the jar first,’ he continued,’there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,You will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So…

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the dripping tap.

‘Take care of the golf balls first — The things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.’

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.

‘I’m glad you asked’.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.’

Please share this with other “Golf Balls”

Boynton Family

With all the bad weather we’ve been having in South San Diego, I was extremely worried about this session. I got even more nervous when Becky called and asked the same question that’s been running through my head,”Will the weather be ok?” The photographer in me was thinking of how much FUN a rainy session at the beach would be, BUT I know it’s not ideal for others. LOL.  I took a deep breath and simply said,”Let’s see how the weather pans out,” and amazingly enough, it was the best days we’ve had at the beach in a long time!

This family is a little more special to me than all my wonderful clients. I worked with Damien at Paradise Point Resort in Mission Bay earlier this year before we both moved to bigger and great occupations. He’s a great fella that had a lot of confidence in my work and my aspirations. I enjoyed seeing the family photos he had in his office and just ADORED Olivia when we was little. To be able to actually meet the bunch and be behind my camera, made me slightly nervous I must admit. But like any other session (especially family sessions), we met, we played and had an AMAZING time. Damien’s family, much like himself, was so inviting, it was like a reunion between two families out to hang out.  OH! Let me add…I LOVE LOVE LOVE when families get silly with me! :)

Thank you Damien and Becky for the wonderful afternoon. I had a great time playing with the kids – so much my body is sore! It was WELL WORTH IT! Looking at all the wonderful captures, it was hard for me to decide which to post…so here are SEVEN teasers to tell a mini story.

One of my silly favs!
