2011 Power Outage

So about 1.6 million people know what I talk about when I speak of what happen yesterday in San Diego County. This blackout happened around 3:30pm and stretched as far North as Orange County and as far East as Yuma, Arizona. Crazy! First things first, we are all safe and everyone is doing okay.

Key things to remember now, from a foodie standpoint, is to watch out what’s in your fridge. Visit this site to get a comprehensive list of what’s safe and what’s not. http://www.kogo.com/cc-common/mainheadlines3.html?feed=408120&article=9087368.

From a mommy’s standpoint. San Diego Unified School District IS CLOSED. For the safety of our children, it’s best we let them make sure everything is in working condition and anything consumed is safe.

Now, from a photographer’s standpoint….here is the shenanigans we were up to when going to bed. :)

Fall Sessions Available

Now that school has officially started, I think it’s safe to say we can start planning for the next big event. Do I dare say it….yup…FAMILY PHOTOS for the holidays. I’d be honored to be able to capture your family’s photos for all to see and for you to cherish. I have already booked some key dates, and please take note that I DO NOT do holiday sessions in December. I want to make sure we all leave plenty of time to get cards printed and mailed and shooting in December just cuts it too close.

Speaking of which, I know *I* need to find a willing photographer to dare the daring and do photos for me and my family. And as many photographer’s know, it ain’t easy photographing a photographer’s child ;) . No, but on the serious note. Even if you don’t see doing professional photos fitting in this years budget, please promise me you will at least set up a tripod and do some photos yourself. The years come and go so fast, I can’t believe I’m even typing about the…holidays… already! Man oh man!

Ok, I’m done for now before I start writing my Christmas list hehe.

…and the winner is…

First of all, I hope everyone had a WONDERFUL Labor Day weekend. It’s been a crazy busy weekend, and I’ve been meaning to share the wonderful news. I hope our winner doesn’t mind having to wait this long for the results. :)

Change is painful, but worth it!

So I’ve been meaning to write about one of the biggest changes in camera land known to any photographer. It’s been a long debate, mentally, physically and emotionally to come to the point where I was 10 days ago. I’ve been itching for an upgrade, but the insecure feeling in my gut was giving me an ultimatum. Do I dare invest in a product that has been known to have focusing issues, or do I go safe by selling all my gear and going to the ‘dark side’? After the long awaited decision, I did it. The result, I switched from Canon to Nikon…

I’ve researched A GREAT DEAL in regards to if I should go from my wonderful 5d to the 5d mark II. I love the idea of video (but really, do I have time, and most important, do I have the patience to learn it?). I loved the fact that I have all the lenses I need at the moment, and I get to use them seamlessly with my upgrade. The only thing I couldn’t fathom was the investment I was going to make and have a good chance that I will have focusing issues. Yes, I said it. I feared something that wasn’t certain and with that, I took the ‘easy way out’ and when given a great deal on a d700, I jumped on the opportunity.

I know it may not sound like it makes any sense, but I feel confident in my change. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how well it handles noise at a high ISO. It is VERY much needed with who I shoot and where I shoot. Controls are COMPLETELY different from the Canon. You can catch me MANY times pushing ‘Ok’ when I intended to hit ‘Play’. Oiy. An upgrade is an upgrade regardless of what camera I chose, and I’m ecstatic for the new technology and image handling. I’m still trying to get use to how Nikon’s handle color, it’s different, but I got it under control. ;)

Overall, the growing pains have been tough. Ask the people that were near me when I first attempted to take a shot…apparently the ‘On’ button is not in the same place as Canon. LOL. 10 days from being a Nikonion (I can’t believe I just called myself that..LOL), I feel comfortable. Actually, the teaser of Baby Ciara was my first session with my D700, and hey, not too shabby! I’m excited I made the change and don’t regret it ONE BIT.

Here’s to change. It may not always be easy, but you learn to grow and understand why change was for the better. Oh, and speaking of change, have you noticed my new watermark? Yes, more change is on it’s way!

Here are some shots of the Miss from last weekend, the official run with the d700. We all went to the San Diego Safari Zoo (aka the Wild Animal Park) and had a great time. It gave me the confidence boost I needed when learning this beast! ;)

Yes, that is my LITTLE girl. I can’t believe how grown she looks in this photo.

Important Dates

I think it’s fair to say I can take a nice mini vacation after the holiday rush.  Paul and I made an executive decision that Pasheoni Photography & Design will be closed December 20th to January 10th to spend time with family and friends during this holiday season.  :) If you have already contacted us in regards to a session, no worries, we will still be working with you.  If you are interested in booking a session, please contact us before December 20th or wait until we open in January :)

If you do call, don’t worry, you won’t be ignored! I love hearing from you. AND YES, I will still be posting on the blog. I may be on vacation, but I am still a workaholic! haha.

Speaking of blogging, I’ve been meaning to post pictures of how festive it is around here, but DANG it’s been raining and I haven’t had a chance to pull out my camera.  I did get some nice shots at December Nights of the family.  I’ll post some of those shots AFTER I mail out my Christmas cards. I’d hate to spoil the excitement! LOL

In the meantime, you can enjoy one shot I captured while we were talking around. :)
