Go Canon Go!

So the dear hubby, being a fellow HOUSE fan, text messages me about an article he had read online.  What made it interesting, besides it being about a SEASON FINALE on a show we (try our hardest) to watch religiously, is that it was ALL SHOT on a Canon 5dMii.

WHAT?!?! A DSLR???

YUP!

Now, how cool is that. You go Canon with your bad self!  Here is the article if you’re interested!

In OTHER news, look what I have coming up.  Two newborns, a 2 year old and a 7 year old, all from the wonderful city of Riverside! Yup, I had a great opportunity to capture some beautiful children 1 1/2 hour drive north of me.  So if you’re in the Riverside area, and wish to have a session with me, let me know! I’d love to make another trip up. :)

Sweet Slumber

As much as my two love to be with each other, it’s a rare moment for them to sit in one location together. The other night while I was busy in the office working on the computer, I see them playing on the bed behind me.  Then it got quiet. Many parents know it’s not always a great thing when there’s silence in the house, but when I turned around…look what I found.

Priceless.

Operation: What’s Quackin?!

Some may have noticed a little rubber duck in one of the photos in my last post.  Many of you may have automatically assumed Pixel2Canvas (am I right?!) LOL.

My sister had came up with this idea and with Pixel2Canvases idea in my mind, we came up with, “Operation: What’s Quackin?!” With my brother-in-law deploying to Iraq, we wanted to think of a way to keep in touch in the most simplest form. What better way to do it is with photos and with technology nowadays, we decided that with a simple camera phone (and sometimes with a regular camera), extended family and some friends, and the powers of Facebook, we have communication.

Criteria to play:
Facebook account
Camera/Camera phone
Name the duck assigned to you

The Mission:
You are to post ANYTHING and everything you are doing. From what’s for lunch to something you saw that you found interesting.  Take a picture with your duck and post it to the Facebook fan page. At the end of the deployment, we plan to gather all the photos and captions our ducks have been in and make it into a book.

I know this may sound silly, quite a quack job some may say…but that’s my family and we are proud of it! So what I will do is do a recap of where SL Koloa has been each week for all my blog readers to see.  You are also welcome to view our fan page, OR even sign up to receive a duck, by visiting Operation: What’s Quackin’

Wow, just looking at the date just makes me think binary. LOL, yes, totally random.

New Year, New Things. That’s what everyone seems to follow, why not?  It’s a great reason to start something fresh.  With business going full speed ahead, I can’t wait to meet all the new faces in hopes that they are more than just a captured moment.  I enjoy making friends, who doesn’t? I get really excited when a client and I just click and BAM, a friendship is born. LOL, no pun intended..well maybe just a little.

I was always told that how you spend New Years Day is how the year, in essence, will play out. With today being a good day, I’m hoping this means it’s going to be a good year. There was no better way than to spend it with the ones who mean the most to me – my family.

With my family, there is no such thing as a gathering WITHOUT food.  So out came the carne asada, pollo asada, and adobada.  YUM. I think the best part of the day, besides eating, was just sitting out in the backyard, hearing the kids play, seeing my dad mastering the art of grilling, and just feeling the nice cool, crisp air.  Here’s to hoping this year is filled with, laughter, appreciation and a full stomach!

Oh and look who we found in the backyard, Insectosaurus! (haha, yes we watched Monsters vs. Aliens on our countdown to 2010)

Eight is another number closer to 12! I don’t understand why 12 keeps getting closer. 12 equals 1…YES! ONE!  I can’t imagine my baby girl turning ONE!!!!

Though she actually turned 8 months old on Thanksgiving day, we wanted to do something special just for US.  San Diego doesn’t typically show it’s Seasons.  I mean, we wear flipflops ALL YEAR LONG.  LOL.  One place I do know where you can tell it’s Autumn is at the beautiful Old Poway Park.  We enjoyed the day sitting in the grass with our packed lunch and soaked up the nice cool breeze.  I couldn’t have asked for a better day to spend it with MY family.  The family my HUSBAND and I created.  It’s an amazing feeling.  Through all the tough days being a parent has to offer, this by far makes it all worth it and them some!

Kayla, as much as I hate you growing up, you’re are growing up BEAUTIFULLY inside and out.  There isn’t a day you dont make my heart melt.  You and your brother (and yes, your daddy too) make my life complete and I can’t ask for anything more..

Ok. I’m done being all ‘Hallmark’! :)

Memorable Mondays – Town Fiesta

This Saturday was the annual Gentri Fiesta.  Every year my parent’s town in the Philippines prays and gives thanks to their patron saint, Saint Francis of Assisi. Here we have morning mass, eat, karakol (A street dance done in homage to the patron saint and also as thanksgiving for a good harvest or to ask for rain usually performed by local residents during barrio  or town fiestas).  It’s a lot of fun, and a great way to see people from the town you haven’t seen in a long time.  Our family has been going for as long as I can remember.  Just seeing the karakol, as silly as some may think it is, just brings a smile to my face as I see my mom, my aunties and everyone else dance with laughter while the band plays the familiar song.   Here’s to another weekend of dance, music, food and family.

Memorable Mondays

If you know my life, then you know that we are ALWAYS out and about on weekends (no matter how much housework there is)!  Since the busy work week keeps us pretty much in a routine with the kids, we always told eachother we want to spend quality time with the kids with no worries of what needs to get done (to an extent) on weekends.  So I decided to start ‘Memorable Mondays’.  This will recap what we did for the weekend/week.

This weekend was the Pacific Islander Festival Association’s 15th annual luau. Paul and I have been gonig every year with eachother since we’ve met – so that’s 8 years straight. It’s a great tradition we have and I love being to now bring my wee family to it as well.  This being Keoni’s 3rd time, he knew exactly where we were and what to anticipate. Kayla, however, was a little overwhelmed, but enjoyed herself nonetheless.  We typically leave bright and early in the AM (like 7am) to get prime parking and seating since over 50,000 people go every year.  Over the years we’ve mastered what to bring and how to drag it to the beach – cooler of drinks, snacks, blankets, mini tent for the kiddos, chairs, and SUNBLOCK) all thrown into the strollers, ha! At PIFA, theres great food, music, entertainment, vendors and a lot of fun.

cleaning

Mommy is cleaning and organizing.

So being the ‘typical photographer, I’ve been slacking on my own photos!  HA! So I’m trying to ‘force’ myself to print my snappies and put them in an album.  THANKS printing company for printing them OUT OF ORDER (granted I know it’s my fault since you’re only printing them by the file name lol).

As for the cleaning, ahem..note to self, CHECK ALL POCKETS BEFORE THROWING CLOTHES IN THE WASHER AND DRYER. Why, you ask? Because gum and dryers don’t mix!  It makes a GOOEY mess!  No worries, no clothes were harmed (I think!).

On an upnote, I FINALLY have my beautiful canvas up on the wall! Photo was taken by a great friend, the oh-so-talented Carrie Sandoval when Kayla was just 5 days old! Carrie, I can’t thank you enough for this amazing photo, AND the many others!  I can’t wait to see you next week! :)

Well, enough goofing off, and back to organizing photos before my princess awakens!

Fun at the Park

Who could resist not going to the park on such wonderful weather?  Lately it’s been in the 70s, so we all decided to get some fresh air and have a stroll at the park.  The K man was excited to be able to bike where he pleased (well almost)!  I can’t wait until we can push Sister around at the park too!! :)

Two-Six

I can’t believe I’m almost in my 3rd trimester!  Really, 3rd trimester?!  Now is the time to start those maternity photos, right? lol.  Thankfully, I’m still feeling well and the stretchmarks haven’t found me.  I know they will…it just hasn’t hit yet!  I have a couple photographers that are stepping forward to help me with my maternity shots and I can’t wait til we start!  So for now, you’re stuck checking out my SP! lol
