2011 Power Outage

So about 1.6 million people know what I talk about when I speak of what happen yesterday in San Diego County. This blackout happened around 3:30pm and stretched as far North as Orange County and as far East as Yuma, Arizona. Crazy! First things first, we are all safe and everyone is doing okay.

Key things to remember now, from a foodie standpoint, is to watch out what’s in your fridge. Visit this site to get a comprehensive list of what’s safe and what’s not. http://www.kogo.com/cc-common/mainheadlines3.html?feed=408120&article=9087368.

From a mommy’s standpoint. San Diego Unified School District IS CLOSED. For the safety of our children, it’s best we let them make sure everything is in working condition and anything consumed is safe.

Now, from a photographer’s standpoint….here is the shenanigans we were up to when going to bed. :)

First Day of Kindergarten

Wow. Just wow. With the San Diego Unified School District starting later than the neighboring districts, I can finally say Keoni started kindergarten! With him starting at this school for preschool, the transition was very easy for him. He was nervous in the morning, but it quickly melted as familiar faces and names came around.

It’s hard to believe that my little boy is now in kindergarten. With this being the starting point of his educational career, I hope it was a positive experience for him.

To mark this momentous occasion, I was already told by the K-man that I need to do a video, just like I did when he started preschool (seen here). So for now, I leave a photo and when I complete the video, I’ll post it too! :)

Oh yeah, and I’m also proud to report that on our first day of school follow up phone call (just as we did last year), NO TEARS WERE SHED! Woohoo!

Breaking out of the Mundane Routine

If you know me, you know how crazy busy our schedule is when it comes to weekdays and weekends. No matter what, there is always something going on. Now that Keoni has started soccer, we’re at the field every Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today, however, I just wanted to have some fun time with them. No obligations but to have fun. Granted we did kick the ball around, but there were no drills, no coaching, just ‘keep-away’. I try my best to just enjoy the moment, but then when I look back, there are times I wished I brought my camera. Believe me, yes, this extra appendage does have it’s moments of staying at home. This was going to be one of those moments until dear hubby handed me the bag. So sure, why not? I’m so glad he did….

A Girl and her Ladybugs

I am taking full advantage of the amount of rain San Diego is getting. When I saw my Father-In-Law’s backyard, it was a must mini session with my little girl. This was the first time she’s seen ladybugs in person, and as hesitant as she was, she was also very curious. I seriously can’t believe how fast she is growing. In just a couple weeks my little girl will be turning TWO! She amazes me with how observant she is with her surroundings and how much she expresses her self. I find it so cute when she is distraught and you hear her say, “oOooh NoooOO!” The tiny voice and the shear sadness. Luckily, she is quick to bounce back and be happy once she figured out how to make it all better. Her favorite cartoon at the moment is Ni Hao Kai Lan, and (sadly) Yo Gabba Gabba. She will stop in her tracks when she hears either one. With that said, she’s learn to LOVE her Kai Lan big girl undies and enjoys the freedom of no more diaper. I’m so proud of her. I love snuggling her, and it’s too funny when I ‘resist’ kissing her. She will grab my head with both hands and plant me a big wet kiss…:sigh:. These moments are something I can cherish forever. Now where is the magical photographer that suppose to be capturing all of this for MY family?!

POTD {Hot Mess}

Rain in San Diego and driving don’t mix. It’s true. We freak out once you see a drizzle and tend to drive crazy. With Kayla also running a fever this morning, we decided to make it a home day. My poor little girl didn’t want to do anything but lay down and watch Kai Lan. My heart aches any time my little one’s aren’t feeling good. With a little dose of motrin and a nice shower, my little girl was starting to feel better, whew. I guess with the heat she was exuding and the dampness in her hair, it made perfect little curls. I couldn’t help but snap a couple of her poof. She’s still not feeling too well, but I think she had a little fun playing with me back. :)

(forewarning – I do have a POTD for 20, I just haven’t taken a pic of the pic yet. You’ll understand when I post it LOL)

SHE IS HOME! After her mini vacation with my sister, my baby girl is home. I love it when she comes to sit in my lap and wants to draw too. I can’t wait til I can teach her how to use the wacom! ;)

Look who found her way to our bed early this morning…and you know what?!  I LOVED IT!

This was an emotional day to say the least. I’m very excited and happy for my parents to be able to live their dream and go back ‘home’ to the Philippines, but I’m also saddened that, well they are going to be in the Philippines and not just a couple miles away. Thankfully they are only going to be gone for 4months. Nonetheless 4 months is the longest they’ve been away and they are also full of emotion. Since day one both my kids were being babysat by my mom. When my dad retired from work back in November, he was able to spend M-F with them as well. Kayla just adores my dad so much she’s like a little puppy that follows him EVERY WHERE. We would get to my parents’ by 7am and she’d quickly skip to the room and say,”wayykup Lolo (meaning grandpa in tagalog)!” Keoni always gravitated to my mom. Lola (grandma) always let’s him have whatever he wants..and he knew it.

So as I type, my parents are on a plane and heading back to a place they use to call home. It’s a big change for all of us and I can’t wait til I can pick them back up! :)

Nice afternoon nap. I wondered where he went! LOL

Milestone for all of us…

Ok. all of us but Kayla. :P

Keoni’s BIG day…FIRST DAY OF PRESCHOOL.

I can’t believe how fast time has passed us by. I remember the night when I woke up Paul and told him, get ready, this little man wants out. Now this little man is 4 and starting preschool. It hurt me emotionally to see this, yet I am proud. He’s grown up so much, it just amazes me. He is such a great brother, Kayla will miss him while he’s gone. But it’s okay, it’s only 3 hours. They will both get through it.

Dropping him off was difficult. I can’t say he loved it and left. He didn’t want us to leave, he kept running to the car and he would just stay quiet if anyone would speak with him. I hate sneaking out without saying goodbye, but we had to if we wanted to get to work. I couldn’t wait until 12:20 hit, and that I would get that phone call and when I did, I was soOo excited to hear his day. First words that came out of his mouth over the phone….

“Mama….I CRIED A LOT!!!!”

:( .
